CLEARWATER, FL – Jake Clemente was on a mission today, striking out a career-high of nine batters, but the Hammerheads couldn’t provide him with run support. They struggled to score runs for the majority of the game. The Jupiter Hammerheads were able to beat the Clearwater Threshers 6-5 thanks to a six-run eighth-inning comeback.

Eighth Inning Comeback
Prior to the eighth inning, the Hammerheads just weren’t following through at the plate. They were outhitting the Threshers but couldn’t drive in the runs.
The best example came in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Then, Julio Henriquez, Jose Monserrate, and Luis Arana struck out.
The eighth inning certainly was a magical one. Victor Ortega started the rally by hitting his 10th double on a grounder into right field. Luis Cova scored all the way from first.

Then, Jose Monserrate scored both Ortega and Henriquez after he connected on a liner into center field for his first triple of the season. At that point, Jupiter was down 5-3 with just one out and a lot of wiggle room to play with.

The Hammerheads’ 2/11 statistic with runners in scoring position isn’t pretty, but those two hits were the biggest of the game.
