Hammerheads Explode Offense Threshers

CLEARWATER, FL – Following a disappointing 5-0 loss, the Hammerheads were able to turn things around and swing at every opportunity that would lead them to score runs. As a result, the Jupiter Hammerheads went 5/17 with runners in scoring position and exploded on offense to beat the Clearwater Threshers 8-3.

Offensive Explosion

Luis Cova delivered the first RBI of the game in the first, scoring Marlins’ prospect Luis Arana. Jupiter would go scoreless until the third when Andres Valor hit a sac fly.

The Hammerheads went off in the fourth with a five-run inning. It got started with the bases loaded thanks to an Arana single and then walks by Echedry Vargas and Cova. Valor made it a 3-0 after reaching on a base hit.

Next up, Yoffry Solano drove in two runs on a line drive to center, scoring both Vargas and Cova to make it 5-0.

Jeremy Almonte extended the lead to six after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Then, Luis Leon capped off the scoring on an RBI single, making it a 7-0 blowout.

After Clearwater scored a run, the Hammerheads scored their final run in the sixth on a sac fly from Vargas. Jupiter totaled 14 hits.

Noble Meyer started the game, tossing an inning and recording a strikeout. Samuel Carpio came in relief in the second and lasted 3.1 innings. He did have trouble finding the zone, throwing just 29 strikes in 54 pitches, causing him to surrender four walks.

Elier Morillo came in the fifth inning. He threw 1.1 innings, and he also faced some lengthy counts, throwing 14 strikes on 35 pitches. Still, he didn’t let his four walks affect him too much as he was able to punch out three hitters.
Braulio Salas threw 2.2 innings, allowing a pair of hits and walks on a strikeout. Luis Cesar shut the door in the ninth, picking up the last two outs of the game.
