PENSACOLA, FL – After a blowout loss last night to the Biloxi Shuckers, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos bounced back with solid pitching and productive hitting. Miami Marlins prospects Aiva Arquette and Max Williams both homered for the Blue Wahoos in their 7-2 win over the Shuckers

Prospects Shine

The Wahoos put up two runs on the scoreboard in the second inning due to a double from Payton Green, scoring Ethan O’Donnell, and then Emarrion Boyd drove in Green with a single.

In the third, Arquette homered for his 10th home run of the season, making it 3-0. This was his sixth hit in nine at-bats against pitcher Jaron DeBerry, extending his current hitting streak to 11 games.

Luis Moreno started for Pensacola. He cruised through the first three innings until the fourth, when he gave up a solo home run to Matthew Wood. Besides that, he didn’t face any bumps until the sixth, when he allowed a solo home run to Andrew Fischer.

Fischer’s home run was his 47th this season, the most by a minor leaguer since Ryan Howard had 46 in 2004. Moreno lasted six innings on the mound, allowing five hits, two runs, and a walk while striking out five. His ERA dropped from 7.36 to 7.07.
The Blue Wahoos bounced back with a pair of runs in the fifth, thanks to Williams going yard with a two-run 439-foot homer. It was the fifth time this season in just six games that he hit a home run for Pensacola.

In the eighth inning, the Blue Wahoos again added a pair of runs to their 5-2 lead. After Cristian Hernandez and Payton Green both stole a base, a bad throw from Biloxi behind the plate caused Hernandez to score. Then, Dylan Jasso singled to bring Green home, making it 7-2.
Nigel Belgrave earned the save after retiring all nine batters he faced. He pitched for three innings and got three strikeouts.

Chasing History

The Wahoos are now 78-56 on the season, and 42-23 in the second half. If they win two of their next three games, they’ll close out the regular season with the best record in franchise history.
