It’s been four days since Inter Miami CF lost the Leagues Cup 2025 Finals 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders. Although the defeat was surprising because of the Sounders’ utter dominance of the Herons, what was shocking was the players’ scuffle after the match. Miami players, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Marcelo Weigandt, Tomas Aviles, and Maxi Falcon can be seen on video escalating the situation instead of trying to maintain the peace.
Word on the street is that Inter Miami is handing out fines internally to players, and MLS is awaiting the Leagues Cup Organizing Committee’s report to fine and/or suspend players. Whatever actually takes place, a strong and clear message needs to be sent by both the club and the league.

Not a good look for the players and the club.
There’s more to Luis Suarez spitting on Gene. If you look closely, Suarez first looks down to the ground before stepping on Gene’s foot. He then puts his other foot back for extra leverage preventing Gene from getting away before he spits on him… #LeaguesCup2025 pic.twitter.com/u5wi8BqB8J

The worst offender was Luis Suarez, and he could face the most severe punishment. To add to the drama, Seattle will play Miami on September 16th at Chase Stadium.
Benjamin Cremaschi
The Herons announced that Benjamin Cremaschi has been loaned out to Parma of the Italian Serie A until June 2026 with a purchase option. Cremaschi recently became the first academy product to play 100 games for the Herons. He appeared to question how Mascherano was using him in games during a practice session interview with local reporters recently.
🤔
“I go into games not having a clue as to where I will play positionally. … It’s impossible to prepare for which position I’ll play in.
“I think I’m going to play here and then I end up playing somewhere else. … Mentally sometimes it’s difficult.”#InterMiamiCF #Messi𓃵 pic.twitter.com/QMDULwGTo5

The move to Italy is a good opportunity for Cremaschi, who was caught in a numbers game in the midfield, which limited his playing time. His style of play is suitable for Serie A, and unlike many pundits, I believe he can thrive in Parma. Inter Miami will miss his versatility. Benja was used in multiple positions throughout this season. He has played as a winger and as a right back, along with attacking and defensive midfield positions. Miami will now have to rely on various players to cover some of the positions Cremaschi played. Best of luck to the young Italian stallion; he’s going to do well with Parma.
Cremaschi is headed to Italian 🇮🇹 side Parma according to @FabrizioRomano ..Loan with an option to buy..Great opportunity for the young midfielder who was fighting for minutes in a crowded #InterMiamiCF midfield..#MLS #MLSes https://t.co/YHh0VQ6lXG

International Call-Ups
Inter Miami had eight players called up by their respective national teams during this international break. Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, Telasco Segovia, Fafa Picault, David Ruiz, Noah Allen, Mateo Silvetti, and Santiago Morales. Hopefully, they return recharged and reenergized for the last stretch of the MLS season and can help the team on the journey to the last available hardware that they can win, the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup.

Mascherano On The Hot Seat
Javier Mascherano had been criticized by some Inter Miami fans even before coaching his first match for the team. The criticism stemmed from Mach’s inexperience and his track record with Argentine youth national teams. The perception has been that he underachieves with talented teams. Currently, Mascherano isn’t doing anything to change that perception during his tenure with Inter Miami. The Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup are left to strive for, and his last opportunities to win a trophy this season. If Mascherano does not win a title this season, his job could be in jeopardy.
Bienvenido, Jefe 🇦🇷✍️
Argentina and FC Barcelona legend Javier @Mascherano has been named as our new head coach! Welcome to the Miami dream 🩷🖤.
