DUNEDIN, FL – For both teams, the start on offense was extremely slow. The Dunedin Blue Jays didn’t get their first hit in the third, while the Jupiter Hammerheads didn’t get theirs until the fourth. Carlos Sanchez hit two home runs, lifting the Hammerheads to a 7-4 victory.

Hammerheads Explode with 6 Runs in 4th/5th Innings

After Marlins’ #11 prospect Andrew Salas stole second, the #26 prospect, PJ Morlando. drew a walk. Then, right fielder Josh Hogue reached on a fielder’s choice, prompting the bases to get loaded.
The designated hitter, Jose Monserrate, hustled out and beat out the throw at first with a single, scoring Salas.

Having hit the walk-off home run in a 5-4 win against the Daytona Tortugas this past season, Sanchez one-upped himself by hitting a grand slam into right-center.

The fifth inning for Jupiter started with Carter Johnson getting walked and Andres Valor reaching base with a single. While both runners successfully had a double steal, Dunedin’s catcher made a throwing error to third, causing Johnson to score, making it 6-0.

Pitchers Combine for 11 K’s

Coming into the game, Clemente didn’t exactly have the start to the season he was looking for. Making his second start in his fourth appearance, he was 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA, a .296 opponent’s batting average, and a 2.14 WHIP.

He was dialed in all game, allowing two hits and three walks on four strikeouts. Throwing 64 pitches in four innings of work, Clemente’s ERA went down to 4.09.

The Hammerheads went to the bullpen in the fifth with left-hander Elier Morillo making his sixth appearance of the season. Despite a 4.22 ERA coming in, he had 22 strikeouts, a .167 opponent’s batting average, and a 1.41 WHIP.

Despite allowing two hits and three runs, he struck out five hitters. Morillo lasted two innings, throwing a total of 46 pitches. His ERA went down to 3.55 after getting his second win.

Luis De La Cruz came into the game in the seventh, making his eighth bullpen appearance. He got the hold after tossing two innings, allowing just two hits and a run.

Samuel Carpio recorded his third save after allowing a run and a hit in the ninth. He is off to a great start this season with a 0.87 ERA over 10 games.

Since one wasn’t enough, Sanchez went on to belt his second home run in the game. He hit a solo shot in the ninth, in nearly the same spot where he hit his previous grand slam. Carlos Sanchez went 2/3 with two runs and five RBI.

Marlins Prospects

Both Marlins prospects in the lineup tonight did contribute to the game. Batting third, Salas went 1/4 with a run and a punchout. Hitting cleanup, Morlando 0/3 with a run, walk, and a strikeout.
