Heat Sign Klay Thompson

MIAMI, FL – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed four-time NBA Champion and five-time NBA All-Star Klay Thompson. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Klay is one of the most iconic players to ever suit up in the NBA,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “A four-time battle tested World Champion who will fit perfectly into his role as an all-around player at both ends of the court. We all talk about his shooting skill, but there is so much more he brings to the game. We are blessed that Klay chose the HEAT in our quest to challenge for championships.”

Thompson, a two-time All-NBA and All-Defensive Team selection, appeared in 69 games (eight starts) with Dallas last season and averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 21.7 minutes while shooting 38.3 percent from three-point range. He connected on a team-leading 202 three-point field goals as over 70 percent (202-of-286) of his made attempts were from downtown. His 202 made three-point field goals also marked his 11th season with at least 200 from beyond the arc, the second-most 200-plus made seasons in NBA history. He hit 188 treys off the bench, the most during a single season in Mavericks’ history, and the second-most by any reserve in the NBA last season, second to only now HEAT teammate Tim Hardaway Jr.’s 205 made. Thompson scored in double-figures 40 times, including eight 20-point games, and led Dallas in points eight times, blocks seven times and steals on six occasions.

Thompson, a 13-year NBA veteran, has appeared in 934 regular season games (822 starts) and averaged 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 31.4 minutes while shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from three-point range and 85.8 percent from the foul line. He made 14 three-point field goals on October 29, 2018, the most during a single game in league history, and has now totaled 2,899 career three-point field goals, the fourth-most in NBA history. Additionally, Thompson has appeared in the postseason in 11 of his 13 career seasons.

Thompson will wear number 11.
