MIAMI, FL – The National Basketball Association Physicians Association (NBAPA) announced the appointment of HEAT team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick as its new President after serving as Vice President for one year. He previously served as President from 1999 through 2001 and has now become the first two-time President of the NBAPA. Dr. Selesnick will continue to lead the NBAPA’s mission to provide excellence in research, best practices and medical care for NBA players and the organizations they represent. In his role, he will oversee the association’s medical care programs and support education initiatives for professional personnel and promote research aimed at player health and performance.

Dr. Selesnick, who has been the team physician for the Miami HEAT since its inception in 1988 and was elected the NBA Team Physician of the Year for the 2002-2003 season, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Baptist Health. He has also been the team physician for the USA Dream Team, Team USA at the 2000 Olympics, the NBA All-Star Game (1990, 2000 & 2001), the Miami Marlins (1985-1988), the Miami Open Tennis Championships for 30 years, Miami Dade College for 20 years and is currently the team physician for Inter Miami CF, Miami Jai Alai, Dania Jai Alai, Magic City Jai Alai and is an independent medical consultant for the National Football League and the NFL Players Association Disability Fund. Additionally, he has published more than 60 articles, has had a biweekly column in the Miami Herald for 30 years, and lectured nationally and internationally about arthroscopy, sports medicine and orthopedic surgery.
