Miami, Florida – Fans can now enjoy their first free Whopper Jr tomorrow thanks to the Marlins winning their first home game over Chris Sale and the Atlanta Braves. A big reason for the 5-1 victory is Max Meyer who put together a six-inning quality start holding Atlanta to a run, striking out a career-high seven batters. Miami scored in the first two frames with Josh Bell opening up the scoring with a solo home run.
Up 2-0 in the fifth, Bryan De La Cruz belted a bases-clearing double giving his pitcher plenty of run support. From the seventh onward, the bullpen’s Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender kept the NL East rivals from recording any additional hits. Tanner Scott finished the job raising the ball club’s record to 3-12.

A complete effort
The Fish struck early in the first thanks to Bell’s second dinger of the season. Miami built upon their lead the next inning pouncing on a fielding error by Jarred Kelenic. Vidal Bruján hit a sacrifice fly with runners at the corners only for the left fielder to drop it. Avisaíl García crossed the plate for the 2-0 lead.
Bryan doubles in the bottom of the 5th and 3 runners score.

Meyer, meanwhile, showed he belonged in the rotation bamboozling the Braves through much of the day and getting out of any potential jams. The righty got more run support during the fifth. De La Cruz cleared the bases with a three-run double advancing the cause.
Atlanta showed some life in the sixth. Austin Riley tripled to lead off the frame, scoring on Marcell Ozuna’s slow roller to the mound. Once Meyer’s day was done, the bullpen took over. Faucher and Bender did not allow a hit, striking out three combined. Scott faced the minimum en route to the first 2024 dub at loanDepot Park.

Firstly, the Fish finally beat a lefty. Second, they finally gave the home crowd something to cheer about. And lastly, everybody gets to enjoy Burger King’s offer. I’m more of a Mickie D’s guy. On a far more serious note, Meyer is showing he really wants to stay in the starting rotation. The 25-year-old righty owns a 2-0, 2.12 ERA placing himself among the few bright spots.
Once Edward Cabrera returns, it should be AJ Puk being removed with a transfer to the bullpen. If this cannot happen due to managing Meyer’s innings the hope is he goes into the relief corps. I’m down for either, just don’t send Meyer back to Triple-A.
Max Meyer: Hopefully I can pitch here the whole year.
Many would love that.#MarlinsBeisbol pic.twitter.com/JovALBYuFV
