FIU Women’s soccer met the Delaware Blue Hens in a historic first matchup, coming away with a 2-1 victory. The Panthers began conference play against the undefeated Blue Hens this afternoon in the program’s first matchup in school history.
The Panthers improve to 4-2-3 on the season, earning their first conference game win.
Panthers Pouncing Early
Delaware started the match aggressively, taking the first shot at FIU goalkeeper Valery Restrepo. Entering the game with 26 saves on the season, Delaware’s first few looks were met with a Restrepo stop.
At the 34-minute mark, she dove on a setup shot by Delaware to keep the score at zero apiece.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when FIU earned its first corner kick of the match. Delaware’s defense attempted to clear, but Chinatsu Kaio sent the ball back high into the box.
With Jayden Boelter there to finish, putting FIU ahead 1-0. Jayden Boelter gets her second goal of the year for the Panthers.

With 2:53 remaining in the first half, none other than Montelene Dymond went on to score her sixth goal of the year. Leading the Panthers in goals scored so far this season, she increases the Panther score 2-0.
Chinatsu Kaio was credited with her second assist of the game, setting up her teammates perfectly this afternoon.
Close Second Half Raises Intensity
The second half began very slowly for both teams, but that would suddenly change around the 36th-minute mark. Delaware’s Ava Agresti set up her teammate Adiat Olaogun-Dickson to make the score 2-1 and cut the Panther lead.
Playing from behind, the Blue Hens were firing at will, attempting 12 shots by the 28th minute mark of the second half.
Adiat Olaogun-Dickson continued to get good looks after her first goal of the afternoon, but could not get another one to go in. The best look of the second half for the Blue Hens went just over the net, keeping the score 2-1 with 20 minutes to play.
Delaware did everything it could to try and tie this game, but the Panthers’ defense held strong. In the closing seconds, the Blue Hens’ chances were still alive…until Restrepo got one last save as time expired.
Tight Finish In Historic First Meeting
FIU will get its first win in conference play this season, as well as take the first matchup in program history vs Delaware. A huge win, giving the Blue Hens their first loss of the year and their first loss in conference play.
