Match Action
Inter Miami controlled the action in the first half against a tough Toronto FC squad. The Herons created some chances on goal early on, but a stout Sean Johnson kept them scoreless until Tadeo Allende walloped a header past Johnson in stoppage time. Jordi Alba served Allende to tally his 11th assist on the season. Allende’s goal was his 9th for Miami this 2025 MLS season.

The Herons seemed primed to score a couple more goals against Toronto and secure the match, but TFC was the one that scored the next goal in the 60th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Djordje Mihailovic tapped in a low cross to ruin Miami’s night and provide the final scoreline.

Inter Miami lost ground in their pursuit of the 2025 Supporters’ Shield race with the draw in Toronto, but still have a possibility of claiming the Shield if some results go their way.

Postgame
Sergio Busquets was asked about his recent announcement that he is going to retire after the end of this season,
My family and I think this is what’s best, and my story ends here.
What a magnificent futbol story Busquets has written in his career. It would be spectacular for him and the Inter Miami CF faithful if his grand finale is to walk away with the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup trophies. That would be the happy ending a player like him would seem to deserve. We’ll see how the final chapter plays out.
Final Thoughts
The Toronto FC match did not go as planned for Inter Miami CF, with a tough TFC squad playing to a draw with the Herons. Miami still has the possibility of obtaining the Shield, but now they don’t depend solely on themselves. If the Herons are to be MLS Champions, they might have to capture the crown on the road.
Telasco Segovia has been relegated to the bench for Miami, as Baltasar Rodriguez has been starting in his place lately. It’s a bold move by Mascherano, considering Segovia has 7 goals and 5 assists this season, not bad numbers for a young first-year MLS player. I’m not sure what the coach feels that Rodriguez can offer that is much better than what Telasco has. I’d love to see Telasco back in starting, along with Baltasar, relegating Allende to the bench as a “supersub” for Luis Suarez in the second half.
Busquets will be gone after this season, and there is no better way to say goodbye than winning trophies.
