Lemon City Live 2025 Heisman Watchlist | Week 9

Miami, Florida – The latest round of games brought on several impactful losses, ushering tremendous upheaval to the Lemon City Live 2025 Heisman Watchlist. It all started with Louisville upsetting the second-ranked Miami Hurricanes Friday night, 24-21. By the time Stanford defeated lowly Florida State, #5 Ole Miss,#7 Texas Tech, #10 LSU, and #11 Tennessee, all fell. Ranked USC, Memphis, Utah, and Nebraska joined them in the loss column. UM’s unexpected upset manifested repercussions in more ways than one. Carson Beck’s four interceptions and the absolute disappearance of Reuben Bain Jr. have resulted in both players falling out of the Heisman power rankings.

Whether or not their downfall is permanent is an open question. The latest tumult has opened the door for those who have been gunning (sorry for the pun) for these spots. Spoiler alert: It’s just the SEC and Big Ten in here. For now, anyway.

Ty Simpson

Previous Ranking: 2

Alabama’s quarterback is now the top dog of the LCL Heisman list. Ty Simpson produced 253 yards and two touchdowns in the 37-20 victory over the Volunteers. Although Simpson coughed up the ball in the contest, he’s emerged as the frontrunner with 1,931 yards, 18 TDs, and one interception. He goes on the road to play South Carolina next, where Bama is the heavy favorite.

Fernando Mendoza

Previous Ranking: 3

Indiana continues its undefeated streak thanks to a high-quality effort from Fernando Mendoza. The Miami-born QB torched Michigan State for 332 yards and four TDs, winning 38-13. His next opponent is UCLA, which is riding a three-game winning streak. It will be close to impossible for the Bruins to survive this matchup despite turning things around with the huge upset over then seventh-ranked Penn State. The Hoosiers are only the first of a slate that also includes Nebraska and Ohio State.

Julian Sayin

Previous Ranking: 4

The Super Sayin easily took care of Wisconsin, cranking out 393 yards and four touchdowns. Ohio State is the team to beat, and Julian’s case for the Heisman remains strong, tallying 1,872 yards, 19 TDs, and three INTs. He’ll enter his second bye week and then take on rudderless Penn State. With five games left in the schedule, Sayin has plenty of opponents to pad the resume.

Marcel Reed

Previous Ranking: NR

I welcome the return of Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed. Initially, in LCL’s first edition of this year’s Heisman list back in week five, Reed became obscured in the glowing rise of his peers. The Aggie remained on the outside looking in until last weekend’s 45-42 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Reed recorded 280 yards and three touchdowns, riding another himself, completing an impressive performance. He will now face Garrett Nussmeier and number 20 LSU.

Gunner Stockton

Previous Ranking: NR

Georgia Bulldog Gunner Stockton appears in the top five after outdueling Trinidad Chambliss and fifth-ranked Ole Miss. The winner of that thrilling matchup was likely moving into the power rankings with Stockton throwing for 289 yards and four TDs, adding a fifth on the ground for good measure. Stockton will be off this weekend with a home game versus the now Billy Napier-less Florida Gators once their break is over.
