FIU men’s soccer team (0-1-1, Conf 0-0) rounded out their road trip in Nebraska. The Panthers made a late-game offensive push, but it wasn’t enough to turn the draw against the Omaha Mavericks.
Both teams battled through a defensive first half, with neither side finding the back of the net. Goalkeeper Nigel Van Haveren recorded one save and secured his first clean sheet of the season and ninth of his career.
Offensively, FIU recorded ten shots, nine of them coming in the second half. Finn Bauens made his first start of the season. The Panthers would see multiple scoring opportunities from Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano. Leonardo Consoloni and Santi Possu each recorded two shots, with one on goal apiece.

Despite FIU’s increased pressure in the second half, Omaha’s defense held firm. The Mavericks goalkeeper recorded five saves to keep the Panthers off the board and secure a clean sheet of his own.
The Panthers return home to South Florida for their home opener against No. 2 NC State on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium. This will mark the second meeting between the two programs. Their first matchup came last season in North Carolina, where FIU fell 2–0.
Still searching for their first win of the season, the Panthers will look to make a statement against one of the top-ranked teams in the country.
