MIAMI, FL – After a perfect 2-0 record on the road to begin the season, the FIU Women’s soccer team took on the Jacksonville Dolphins in their home opener and shut them out in a landslide 4-0 win.
It didn’t take long for the Panthers to get on the board as a Dolphins foul in the box set up junior Nikole Solis for her first goal of the night in the 16th minute of the game, giving FIU an early lead.
15 minutes later, another Jacksonville foul set the Panthers with another penalty kick and none other than Solis banked it in during the 32nd minute. The Panthers now led comfortably by a score of 2-0.
In the 52nd minute, Solis scored the third goal of the night for the Panthers. This was her second hat-trick of the season and the sixth goal of the year for the junior.
The final goal of the night came just a minute later thanks to Floyd Kennedy which sealed the game with a final score of 4-0 in favor of FIU.
What was most impressive about the Panthers throughout the whole match was how they limited the scoring opportunities for JU, who only racked up seven shots on the night.
A lot of credit has to be given to the FIU’s defense which was led by Anna Rockett, Regan Bridges, and Camille Sahirul who shut down Jacksonville for the majority of the match.
The 3-0 record for the Panthers is the best start in program history since 1996, in which they went 4-0. One last note is that FIU has yet to concede a goal through the first three games.
The Panthers will travel to Starkville for a matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday, August 27th at 7:30pm.
