FIU Senior Day

Miami, FL-  Coming off a tie against Kentucky, the FIU Panthers faced off against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Senior Day. In recent history, FIU has not had the best luck against the Gamecocks. The Panthers have lost nine out of the 15 all-time matchups. FIU fought hard but to no avail as the Panthers lost on Senior Day, 3-2.

Game Breakdown

The first half was a high-scoring affair as three goals were scored by both teams in the first 18 minutes. The Gamecocks opened up the match, scoring off of a corner kick in the 12th minute. FIU equalized off of a corner kick of their own. The ball was put in the back of the net by Sophomore David Garcia. South Carolina did not hesitate to get the score back in their favor, scoring less than a minute later making the score 2-1.

Despite the scoreline, FIU’s midfield duo of Alessandro Campoy and Matias Barraza did a great job controlling the tempo of the game for FIU. In the 40th minute, defender Kareem Enzo fouled a player in the box.  the foul lead to a Gamecock penalty, in which, they capitalized on the opportunity, taking a commanding 3-1 lead. FIU came roaring back. Talla Faye scored a goal for FIU in the final minute ending the half with a score of 3-2.

In the second half, the goals may have been missing, but the action was not. Both teams had plenty of chances to score, but sadly no team could find that back of the net. In the second half, FIU had nine shots but only two on goal. The second half was equally aggressive as there were five yellow cards handed out between both teams. Sadly, FIU’s efforts were not enough as the Panthers lose on Senior Day 3-2 to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The FIU Panther’s next game is April 14th against Charlotte.
