MIAMI (November 9, 2019) – The Miami FC closed out the NISA Showcase as hosts of the Eastern Conference Championship against Stumptown Athletic. It was a route from minute as the Miami FC wins the NISA Eastern Conference Championship, walking away with its 4th trophy in the calendar year.
Miami nearly took the lead just seconds into the match. Ariel Martínez intercepted a pass at the top of the Stumptown box, laid it off to a streaking Dylan Mares. Mares took a touch and center the ball to Miguel González who shot just missed the near post.
Stumptown would fall back into a defense shell but that did not stop the Miami FC from getting chances. The 16th minute saw Martínez make a great turn at the top of the box and ripped a shot that was caught. Minutes later a scramble in the box saw the ball fall to the feet of Othello just outside the box but his shot found the side netting.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when a deft touch over the defender was batted down for a handball. Martínez stepped up to the spot and buried the chance to put Miami ahead 1-0.
Stumptown nearly equalized in the 32nd minute after earning a penalty after a handball call against Miami FC’s Lance Rozeboom. Stumptown’s Michael Bins stepped up to the spot and fired the ball wide right.
The Orange and Blue doubled its lead in the 38th minute thanks to an instinctive header from González. It marked the forward’s 22nd goal of the year the most goals in a year by a Miami FC player.
Miami kept pouring it on with a third goal in the 45th minute. Bah fired a great ball far post where Lloyd Sam was waiting unmarked and finished the chance.
A slow second half saw a desperate a Stumptown and confident Miami FC battled it out in the midfield for momentum in the match. Miami nearly went up 4-0 after Martínez went a great solo run, slicing through the Stumptown defense only to see his shot hit the side netting.
Stumptown fruitlessly continued to try and find the goal the rest of the night but the Miami FC was up to the task and kept the clean sheet.
The NISA Eastern Conference Championship marked the 9th trophy in four years that Miami FC wins.
