Los Angeles, CA – The Florida Panthers took a 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night, while Forward Brad Marchand left the game with a leg injury and did not return. It was a physical battle for the last game of the road trip that leaves the Panthers down another man.

Marchand left near the end of the second period when he made a collision on the net. Marchand received a high-stick by Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke. What made it worse was Kings center Scott Laughton shoving Brady Tkachuk into Marchand.

A combination of unlucky plays that didn’t seem to have any ill intent towards what resulted. Marchand’s left leg got stuck under his body at an awkward angle and he stayed on the ice for a few minutes. Eventually, Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola helped him off the ice, not putting any weight on the leg. He did not return for the rest of the game. On Friday, Head Coach Paul Maurice announced he will be out for six weeks and will resume skating in three weeks.

Additionally, Eetu Luostarinen also went down with an injury just before Marchand did. He took a shot to the leg, headed to the bench, and missed the remainder of the second period. Eventually, he returned in the third period and will be fine according to Maurice.

“When your name is called, you got the tap on the back to go out there. Just go out there and do your job.” Matthew Tkachuk said post-game. “You’ve just got to oversimplify it, and that’s all right. Panthers hockey: win low-scoring games. It translates to playoffs.” Matthew scored the game-winning goal, his third of the season, about halfway through the third period.

The Panthers finish the road trip going 2-0-2 with six points and are now heading back to Sunrise for their home opener. It will be against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, October 10th at 6 p.m. ET.

“I mean 2-1 filthy tonight to finish off a road trip,” Matthew commented postgame. “If you would have told me beginning of the trip to take six of eight [points], I would have signed on the dotted line.“
