There were some late-match theatrics, but FIU Women’s Soccer edged the Jacksonville State Gamecocks by a score of 2-1 for their 3rd C-USA win. Facing off against the Gamecocks, the first half was marked by pure defense, ending in a 0-0 stalemate. However, the second half would be a different story as both teams started to heat up.
Panthers Corner The Gamecocks
Jayden Boelter had the best offensive half for FIU, attacking early and keeping the Gamecocks on edge. Taking advantage of some good looks, FIU attempted 12 shots in the first half vs the Gamecocks. Jax State goalie Ella Holmberg had eight saves, one of them being Boelter’s closest shot attempt. FIU continued to play true to their strengths and held the Gamecocks to just three shot attempts in the half.
In the last 5 minutes of the half, we saw Montelene Dymond almost get her 8th goal of the season. However, Holmberg was able to maintain composure and save it three different times. With all the pressure building to break the tie, FIU forced several attempts to get Holmberg to fall on the ground. The Panthers were almost getting their first score in the match, but the seat-raising play would end with no goal.

The second half would set a different tone; the Panthers wasted no time attacking the pitch. Grace Morris would set up a serve that, after a deflection, led to a Jayden Boelter header. Boelter would get her 4th goal in four games, and FIU takes the lead with 37 minutes left to play.
Four minutes would pass before disaster struck again for the Gamecocks. Roxy Brewer would get her first goal of the season and put the Panthers up 2-0 with just over 30 minutes left. Going up 2-0 is dangerous territory, as the next score can dictate the rest of the game. That goal would be decided by Jax State as they would go on to score ten minutes later, making it a 2-1 Panther lead.
The final score would end 2-1 with FIU concluding their road trip with a win and a 4-1-1 record in September. The past six games have been on the road for the Panthers; they now get to play at home vs Liberty on October 5th. FIU will improve to 6-2-3 on the year with a 3-0 record in conference play.
