Heisman Watchlist Power Rankings

Miami, FloridaWe’re reaching the season’s home stretch in the Lemon City Live Heisman Watchlist Power Rankings, where the race tightens each week. The latest slate of matchups saw several upsets, and more teams became bowl-eligible. Only a handful of undefeated programs remain. Big changes have arrived with the Heisman landscape continuing to shift with the return of a familiar face from the SEC. By now a handful of names are being spoken by pundits and experts alike with some going as far as to say that this is a three maybe four-person race.

There’s still some football left including the conference championships. For everyone present, their teams’ success or failure to reach the CFP will impact their trophy hopes. Let’s check out the updated field for this week because it was quite an outcome.

Ashton Jeanty

Previous Ranking: 2

This guy can legit hit 2,000 yards. I’ve been seeing it for weeks as the possibility grew. In the 28-21 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack, Ashton Jeanty rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns. He also fumbled for the first time this season and yes Jeanty lost the football. There’s a first time for everything. The Boise State running back sits on 1,734 yards complemented by 23 TDs. With three opponents remaining he looks certainly ready to cross the mark.

Dillon Gabriel

Previous Ranking: 3

The Oregon Ducks’ quarterback made history in the 39-18 victory over Maryland. After throwing for 183 yards and three touchdowns, Dillon Gabriel became the all-time FBS leader with 179 touchdowns surpassing Case Keenum, who scored 178 TDs from 2007-11 at Houston. Gabriel has 146 touchdowns, 32 rushing TDs, and even one thrown to him through six seasons. For 2024 Dillon 2,848 yards, 22 TDs, and five picks.

Cam Ward

Previous Ranking: 1

Some folks have Cam Ward down in third or fourth because the Miami Hurricanes lost. The ineffectiveness of the defense and the bad play calling is not his fault. Ward did throw for 384 yards and three touchdowns in the 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech. Granted, he missed an open Jacolby George in one of the last plays of the game, however, this demotion of sorts is more because of the performances of his peers than any shortcoming. UM’s signal caller has at least three more chances sans any nasty surprises.

Travis Hunter

Previous Ranking: 5

Unlike his teammate, Travis Hunter is still on the list. Although Shedeur Sanders is not out of the running, Hunter is a stronger candidate. Some folks have him as the front-runner or number two. Against Texas Tech Hunter recorded nine catches for 99 yards scoring once. The two-way college star didn’t record a defensive stat but was seen making a great catch for an interception. However, it didn’t count because the play had a penalty. I’m excited to see what he does to finish the season.

Jalen Milroe

Previous Ranking: NR

Welcome back Mr.Milroe. The SEC quarterback ran wild against fifteenth-ranked LSU rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns. The performance was capped off with 109 passing yards. Considering this was done to a ranked opponent Milroe’s outing is more impressive. I believe the Crimson Tide signal-caller is a dark horse in the race. He has Mercer, Oklahoma, and Auburn left to make the case for the Heisman. Milroe might even have a fourth opportunity at the conference championship as well.
