Sunday rain out: Hurricanes settle for two game sweep of NC State

Hurricanes NC State Rain

Miami, FL – The pivotal series finale between the Miami Hurricanes and the NC State Wolfpack was suspended due to rain. UM was ahead 2-0 at the bottom of the third when Daniel Cuvet’s at-bat was interrupted by lightning in the area. After a two-hour and 35-minute delay, both teams saw no way forward with the travel curfew in effect and decided to cancel the game. UM remains 29-18 overall with a 14-9 ACC record. The Canes have won 10 consecutive conference games, including five straight series wins with back-to-back-to-back sweeps. They will host Florida International Wednesday night in their fourth and final meeting of 2025.

Miami nearly scored at the bottom of the second when Fabio Peralta and Renzo Gonzalez hit two-out, back-to-back singles, placing themselves in scoring position. Michael Torres, however, failed to drive them home, going down swinging. The Hurricanes found better luck in the third. Jake Ogden led off with a hit, followed by Max Galvin’s fifth would-be home run, making it 2-0 Miami. Tate DeRias entered today’s contest 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA through 34.2 innings. DeRias had thrown three scoreless frames, limiting NC State to a hit, striking out five. Since game three did not go deep enough, it’s not considered official.

Impressions

A darn shame the weather didn’t cooperate. The goal of finishing the rest of the season strong remains. The Hurricanes need to keep up the hot streak against an FIU team that’s won the last two meetings. It’s all about the body of work, and if UM loses again, the only takeaway from the midweek schedule is losing three of four to the Panthers. It’s a big smudge on the resume. Hats off to the fabulous pitching; they’ve been great lately. Cuvet was on fire at the plate this weekend, going 5-for-6 with four runs and eight RBIs. Danny Dingers was 1-for-1 at the dish before the delay. Onto the next one.
