Lemon City Live Heisman Watch List Power Rankings Week 8

Heisman watch week 8

Miami, Florida – An action-packed weekend has come and gone surprisingly bringing little change to the Lemon City Live Heisman Watch List Power Rankings. Although the AP Top 25 saw movement throughout there’s only one alteration to be made in the Heisman race. Two players were off and those on the outside looking in were unable to crack the list. I don’t anticipate such static outcomes from here onward.

What I do anticipate are incredible performances by individual players as seen in the Miami Hurricanes’ victory over Louisville. Cam Ward’s outing is an example for those aspiring to win the venerated accolade. With plenty of football left to play teams continue fighting through their conference schedules which will bring more dramatic upsets and close calls. Let’s hop to it!

Cam Ward

Previous Ranking: 2

Heading into Saturday’s game I had two questions: Was the defense going to stop Louisville and can Cam Ward catch a certain Boise State running back? I got my answers with the latter balling out. Ward soared tallying 319 yards including four touchdowns avoiding turning the ball over. It’s hard to top a performance like that. UM’s signal-caller is the first quarterback in program history to throw at least 300 yards and three or more touchdowns during the first seven games of the season. For his efforts, he returns to the top spot for now.

Ashton Jeanty

Previous Ranking: 1

The Broncos were on a bye week but break time is over. Ashton Jeanty sits on 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns with no signs of slowing down. Facing their toughest opponent since Oregon in week two, UNLV poses an interesting obstacle. The Rebels have allowed the least amount of points in the Mountain West and are the best in the conference against the rush.

Shedeur Sanders

Previous Ranking: 3

Like others, the Buffaloes QB held fast recording 250 yards, two touchdowns in the air, and another on the ground in the 34-7 victory over Arizona. The problem is that Shedeur Sanders threw two picks and fumbled the ball in what I see as a mixed outcome against a weaker opponent. As you might have guessed, no one below him stood out enough to dethrone him from the third spot. He’ll have a chance to improve this Saturday versus Cincinnati.

Dillon Gabriel

Previous Ranking: 4

Oregon may have won 35-0 over Purdue but Dillon Gabriel’s performance was fairly lackluster. He threw for 290 yards, two TDs and an interception. A decent performance, however, given the strength of the opponent this was hardly worthy of placing him ahead of Sanders. Dillon stands at 2,080 yards, 15 touchdowns, and four picks for the season. He will face No. 20 Illinois on Saturday afternoon in a game with CFP and Heisman implications.

Will Howard

Previous Ranking: 5

Ohio State was also on the bye week but fear not, Will Howard remains on the list. None of those looking to enter the top five did enough to knock out Howard and that includes all the SEC quarterbacks. The Buckeye will look to expand on his 1,574 yards and 14 touchdowns versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a high noon matchup.
