On Saturday, FIU Baseball announced its first get via the transfer portal in Rutgers left-handed pitcher Preston Prince. He will have one year of eligibility remaining. Per Rutgers, Prince stands at 6’5,” 235 pounds.

Prince, an incoming senior, posted a 5.57 ERA, 5.68 FIP, 9.43 K./9 and 12.86 BB/9 in 14 appearances (five starts). After beginning the season as a starting pitcher, he was moved to the bullpen.
Currently, Prince is in the MLB Draft League with the Trenton Thunder. Through three appearances (one start), posting a 15.43 ERA, 13.5 K/9 and 21.2 BB/9 in 4 ⅔ innings pitched. During the 2025 season, it was noted by multiple people within the Rutgers media contingent that he was up to 97 mph on the season.
Prince’s arsenal consists of a four-seam, sinker, slider, changeup, cutter and curveball. In his most recent MLB Draft League outing, his fastball topped out at 91.1 mph. He averages 88.5 mph, but through his three outings, he topped out at 94.5 mph back on June eighth
Prior to his time at Rutgers, Prince spent two seasons at Niagara. His sophomore season, which has been his most extensive work during his collegiate career, he posted a 6.10 ERA, 5.60 FIP, 7.75 K/9 and 9.86 BB/9.
Coming out of high school, Prince ranked No. 53 overall prospect in New York and No. 9 left-handed pitcher by Perfect Game and was named Second Team All-Monroe County after posting a 1.48 ERA as a senior, striking out 48 batters in 28.1 innings and held opponents to a .193 batting average.
