Heat Acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr.

MIAMI, FL – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have acquired NBA Champion, Two-Time NBA MVP and 10-time NBA All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo and NBA Champion Bobby Portis Jr. from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kasparas Jakučionis, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, three first round picks (2026, 2031 & 2033), a 2030 first round pick swap and a 2033 second round pick.

Antetokounmpo, a 2021 NBA Champion, has earned multiple awards and honors throughout his career including the 2018-19 NBA MVP, 2019-20 NBA MVP, 2021 NBA Finals MVP, 2024 NBA Cup MVP, 2021 NBA All-Star MVP, 2019-20 Defensive Player of the Year, 2016-17 Most Improved Player, seven All-NBA First Team selections, two All-NBA Second Team selections, four All-Defensive First Team honors, All-Defensive Second Team selection, All-Rookie Second Team honoree, 11-time Player of the Month, 28-time Player of the Week, helped lead the Bucks to the 2024 NBA Cup title, Greece to a Bronze Medal at EuroBasket 2025 and was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. He is also Milwaukee’s all-time franchise leader in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, field goals made, free throws made, triple-doubles, minutes and games played.

Antetokounmpo started in all 36 games he appeared in last season and averaged a team-leading 27.6 points, team-best 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 28.9 minutes while shooting a career-high 62.4 percent from the field, the highest field goal percentage by any player averaging over 25 points in NBA history. He is now the only player in NBA history to average at least 25 points and shoot over 60 percent from the field in three different seasons, doing so in his last three-straight campaigns. He averaged at least 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the eighth time in his career, the most by any player in league history. He began last season totaling 108 points, 48 rebounds and 21 assists in the first three games of the season, becoming the first player in NBA history to record at least 100 points, 40 rebounds and 15 assists through the first three games of a season. He recorded 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on January 2, surpassing both Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most 30/10/5 games in NBA history, doing so in fewer games. Additionally, Antetokounmpo scored a season-high 41 points on November 7, setting a new Bucks franchise record for 40-point games, and became the sixth-youngest player in NBA history to reach 21,000 career points on November 29.

Portis Jr. appeared in 67 games (nine starts) last season with Milwaukee and averaged 13.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 24.2 minutes while shooting 48.8 percent from the field, 45.6 percent from three-point range and 70.6 percent from the foul line. He scored in double-figures 53 times, including nine 20-point games, and grabbed double-digit rebounds on 12 occasions, tallying 10 double-doubles. The 11-year NBA veteran recorded a Bucks franchise-record 61 doubles-doubles off the bench and has totaled 88 career double-doubles as a reserve, the second-most by any player off the bench in NBA history. He connected on 602 three-point field goals with Milwaukee, the fifth-most in Bucks history. Additionally, Portis Jr. earned the NBA Cares Community Assist award for January for his commitment to mentorship, food security and inclusive community programming.

Herro, who was originally drafted by the HEAT in the first round (13th overall) in the 2019 NBA Draft, played seven seasons in Miami earning the 2022 Sixth Man of the Year award and a 2024 NBA All-Star selection. He appeared in 394 career regular season games (245 starts) averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 32.5 minutes while shooting 45 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from three-point range and 87.8 percent from the foul line.

Jakučionis, who was originally drafted by the HEAT in the first round (20th overall) in the 2025 NBA Draft, appeared in 53 games (12 starts) last season in Miami and averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 17.8 minutes while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from three-point range and 87.9 percent from the foul line.

Jaquez Jr., who was originally drafted by the HEAT in the first round (18th overall) in the 2023 NBA Draft, played three seasons in Miami appearing in 216 career regular season games (38 starts) averaging 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 25.9 minutes while shooting 49.1 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from three-point range and 77.9 percent from the foul line.

Ware, who was originally drafted by the HEAT in the first round (15th overall) in the 2024 NBA Draft, played two seasons in Miami appearing in 141 career regular season games (70 starts) averaging 10.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.10 blocks and 22.2 minutes while shooting 54 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from three-point range and 71.8 percent from the foul line.
