MIAMI, FL – General manager Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins have mutually agreed to part ways. Grier had been the GM of the team since 2016. He had been with the organization since 2000, which was also the last season the Dolphins won a playoff game.

Chris Grier’s Tenure

Grier started off as a scout before getting promoted to assistant director of college scouting in 20o3. He remained in that role until 2007, when he became the director of college scouting, a position he held until 2015.

Since 2016, the Dolphins have held five winning seasons, making three trips to the Wild Card. However, they currently hold the longest playoff win drought, with the streak at 25 seasons.

After losing to the Baltimore Ravens 28-6 and Miami falling to a 2-7 record, owner Stephen Ross had to step in and make the move.

Who is Champ Kelly?

Champ Kelly will be the interim general manager. He was hired back in March to serve as a senior personnel executive. Kelly’s resume includes NFL experience over the past two decades.

He started as a college scout with the Denver Broncos in 2007. Kelly earned several promotions within the organization before leaving for the Chicago Bears, becoming the director of pro scouting. He stayed with the team until he joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 to oversee the assistant general manager position.

Mike McDaniel Stays for Now

The Dolphins also announced that head coach Mike McDaniel will remain in place at least until the end of this season. The next general manager will make the call on whether McDaniel will be let go or not.
