MIAMI, FL – Forward Nikola Jovic agreed to a four-year, $62 million rookie extension with the Miami Heat. It’s a fully guaranteed deal. He will play out his current contract for $4.5 million before his new one kicks in for the 2026-27 season.

“I’m happy this ownership and organization sees the time and work I’ve put in. I’ll make sure to give my everything to make this franchise worth a lot more,” Jovic said.

The 27th overall pick out of the 2022 NBA Draft is coming off his best season yet, where he averaged 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Jovic also saw increased playing time, making 10 starts in 46 games while averaging 25.1 minutes per game.

His season was interrupted by a broken bone in his right hand back on February 23rd. However, he did come back to play in the four-game series against the Cavaliers in the playoffs.

“He’s becoming more mature, more professional,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said earlier this week. “And if you’re hanging out with players much older than you, it just naturally happens. I’ve seen growth from him over three years because of that standard that they’ve had in that program.”

Jovic spent the past summer training with the Serbian national team, and his role with the Heat is only expected to continue growing. His debut at 19 years, 139 days old, was the second youngest in franchise history, only falling short of Dorell Wright in 2005.

If a mutual agreement had not been reached by October 20th, then Nikola Jovic would’ve been a restricted free agent next offseason.
