MIAMI, FL – The Miami Heat are bringing back a familiar face as five-year veteran Precious Achiuwa reunites with them on a one-year deal.
Achiuwa’s History in Miami
The Heat selected Achiuwa in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft with the 20th overall pick.
He was a promising power forward coming out of the University of Memphis. Before declaring for the NBA, Achiuwa averaged 15.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game as a freshman. He was awarded several accolades, including First-team All-AAC, as well as AAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
In his rookie season with the Heat, Precious Achiuwa started in four of 61 games. Achiuwa averaged 12.1 minutes per game and had a shooting percentage of .544. Ultimately, he got traded at the end of the regular season, along with Goran Dragic, to the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade deal for Kyle Lowry.
His NBA Journey
Achiuwa averaged 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in his three seasons with the Raptors. Then, he got traded to the New York Knicks midseason during the 2023-24 season. While there, he averaged 7.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists over the past two seasons.
The 6’9 Nigerian forward adds some much-needed height to the Heat’s roster. He joins the front-court rotation alongside Bam Adebayo, Kel’el Ware, and Nikola Jovic.
