MIAMI, FL – Eury Perez set the tone in his outing all afternoon long. The 22-year-old was pitching in pre-Tommy John Surgery mode. For Perez, it was his first performance ever surrendering just one run. Today’s six innings of work were certainly his most quality start of the season thus far. The hard work finally paid off for Eury Perez, who was the main contributor in the 4-1 victory and the fourth straight series win for the Marlins.
Strong outing from Perez leads to victory
His start against the Twins today is one that he’ll remember. Six complete innings, allowing just one hit and fanning out seven, is the type of outing you’d regularly expect from a CY Young winner.
Eury Perez didn’t give up a single hit until Trevor Larnach doubled in the fourth inning. He dominated the entire Twins lineup twice.
Minnesota swung and missed in 22 out of Perez’s 80 pitches. They were seemingly unable to solve any of the 6’8 right-hander’s magic. Even the balls that were put in play were catchable since the majority of them weren’t hit hard enough. At one point, Eury Perez issued four straight pop-ups.
The fastball and the slider were Perez’s go-to pitches. All but one of his strikeout pitches were heaters. The other was one of the rare curveballs he threw. His changeup was thrown just twice.
After his day was over, Eury Perez’s ERA took a nice plunge from 6.19 to 4.50. The victory today was his first since June 25, 2023, against the Pirates. It was a 2-0 win where he also went six innings, allowing just a pair of hits while punching out nine batters.

Marlins’ offense dictates the game early on
The hitting for the Marlins started the game off with a bang. Xavier Edwards wasted no time, swinging at the first strike. After Jesus Sanchez battled off some fastballs, he got a hit of his own, advancing Edwards to third base. Coming into the series with a 10-game hitting streak, Otto Lopez had been quiet against the Twins, but he delivered the first RBI of the game on a forceout.
Then came Agustin Ramirez, who belted a 425-foot home run to drive in two runs. It left his bat with a 108 mph exit velocity. Ramirez has continued to add to his resume for the National League Rookie of the Year. The 23-year-old leads all rookies in home runs with 13 and in extra-base hits with 29.

In the third inning, Edwards singled and stole second. Jesus Sanchez stepped up to the plate afterwards and drove him in after getting a base hit.

After the inning was over, the offense for the Marlins fell relatively flat for the rest of the game. The early damage, however, was sufficient.
4th of July baseball
The Marlins will welcome the Brewers into town. Winners of nine of their last 10 games, the Fish will send Sandy Alcantara (4-8, 6.98 ERA, 63 K) to make his 17th start, while the Brewers will have the surging Quinn Priester (6-2, 3.35 ERA, 61 K) on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm. Fans are asked to remain in their seats after the game to witness the Fourth of July fireworks show.
Taking a look at the standings, the Marlins find themselves just 6.5 games behind that second Wild Card spot. It’s a sharp contrast to where they were standing very recently on June 22, when they were 11.0 games back.
