Port St. Lucie, FL – Following a blowout loss on Saturday to the St. Lucie Mets, the Jupiter Hammerheads were looking to split the series on Sunday afternoon and finish on a high note. Liomar Martinez was the starting pitcher for the Hammerheads, and he took care of business, earning the win. He gave up a pair of runs early on, but was solid overall through five innings, striking out seven batters. Although they started off sluggish at the plate, a 5th-inning rally helped propel the Hammerheads to victory against the Mets.
Rare Andres Valor homer gets Hammerheads on the board
Outfielder Andres Valor, the Marlins’ 18th top prospect, isn’t known for his power. Sunday afternoon, though, he ripped his second home run of the season. That’s already tied for his career-high in a season. At the time of the homer, the Hammerheads were searching for their first hit of the ballgame going into the 5th inning.
Valor is having a down year so far. In 134 at-bats, he only has a batting line of .194/.313/.284. His kryptonite this season has been constant base hits. His strength, on the other hand, has been his baserunning skills. The 19-year-old has stolen 16 bases while only getting caught twice.

Cam Clayton who?
Cam Clayton is definitely not a name people’s eyes will initially jump to when they take a look at the Hammerheads roster. He got the start at first base today and made his at bat in the 5th inning count.
Down in a 0-2 count, Clayton smacked a slider, that was down the middle, well past the center fielder. Although currently limited to a bench role, these are the type of at bats that will earn him more starts.

Clayton would then go on to score after a sacrifice fly from Jessada Brown.
The RBI keep coming for Abrahan Ramirez
After the Hammerheads scored three runs in the previous inning, the job wasn’t finished yet in the 6th inning. Designated hitter, Abrahan Ramirez, the Marlins’ 20th overall prospect, got another RBI thanks to his single. He now has himself a five-game hitting streak going.
Ramirez has been very consistent driving in the runs for Jupiter all season long. His 23 RBI leads the club. Abrahan Ramirez also leads the team with a .260 batting average and nine doubles.
He doesn’t have any home runs this season, which isn’t a surprise. Instead, he has shown that he can make good swing decisions and put the ball in play when needed to.
How the rest of the top 30 prospects fared up
Andrew Salas (SS who’s #6), Dillon Head (OF who’s #8), and Carter Johnson (2B who’s #10) were the other players in the lineup who are on the Marlins Top 30 Prospects list. Unfortunately, neither of them impressed this afternoon in the batter’s box. Both Salas and Head had the same fate, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Johnson’s performance wasn’t much of a difference either, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.
That’s not to say that their seasons so far should go unnoticed.
Across 35 games and 125 at bats, Salas is slashing .256/.411/.280. He has a great on-base percentage thanks to his discipline in not chasing every pitch. Salas’ 32 bases on balls are currently tied for first place in the Florida State League. He has also displayed his ability to run, having swiped 15 bags across 21 attempts this season.
Andrew Salas extends his on-base streak to 20 games😳
The @Marlins No. 9 prospect currently holds a .494 OBP on the season – the fourth highest in Single-A.
Could we see him in the Top 100 soon?

Head shows some of the same speedy attributes but has more pop to his bat. He has shown progress this season, after missing the majority of 2024 due to injury. Head leads the Florida State League with five triples and tied for second place with 18 steals. His 25 runs and 35 hits lead the team.

Johnson has had more of a disappointing season at the plate. His slash line currently sits at .176/.270/.236. The worst statistic he carries are his strikeouts. His 64 punchouts lead the team by far. Johnson does have the most at bats with 165, but his strikeout rate has been concerning. His bright spot is his 19 RBI, which is second on the team.
