FIU Men’s Basketball Inks Lithuanian Forward Gvidas Gicevicius

FIU Men’s Basketball has announced the addition of Lithuanian forward Gvidas Gicevicius.

The 21-year-old is a 6’8 forward who adds more depth to the FIU frontcourt. He was previously a student at Vytautas Magnus University, where he was studying economics and management. With his prior professional experience, he could make the Panthers’ starting 5 lineup.

His Time With Zalgiris II

Gicevicius had a successful 2024-25 season with Zalgiris Kaunas II. He averaged 8.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game in 27.9 minutes per game. Gicevicius scored a season-high of 22 points on two occasions in wins against Vytis and Suduva-Mantinga.

He also blocked a season-high of two shots on two occasions in victories against Alytus and Vilkaviskis. In a victory against Delikatesas, Gvidas Gicevicius grabbed a season-high of seven rebounds. The Kaunas native also stole three pass attempts in a win over P. Olimpas.

Zalgiris Kaunas II finished the regular season with a 24-13 record. The second-seeded team was eliminated by the seventh-seeded Vilkaviskis in the semi-finals. His team still won bronze medals.

Gicevicius averaged 2.9 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in 11 minutes per game for Zalgiris Kaunas II in 2023-24.

He becomes the second player from Lithuania to play for FIU. Jonas Karosas was the first. He was a walk-on who played five games during the 2008-09 season.

European Youth Basketball Experience

Previously, Gvidas Gicevicius played for youth teams BC Zalgiris Kaunas and Arvydas Sabonis BC.

In 2019-20, he averaged 5.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 15.6 minutes per game for the U17 Division 1 BC Zalgiris Kaunas.

Gicevicius averaged 2.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 11.6 minutes per contest for the U14 Group 1 Arvydas Sabonis BC in 2016-17.
