The struggles continue for the FIU Panthers on the road. It’s been the same storyline all season long for them and the outcome against the Middle Tennessee was no different.
The Panthers found themselves in a 9-2 deficit early into the game thanks to a 7-0 MTSU run. FIU came back within reach to make it a 9-7 game, following two consecutive scores.
After that, their chances of victory evaporated for good, causing FIU to drop their last regular season game to MTSU, 78-56.
Panthers Can’t Hold Up
By the mid-point of the first half, it was apparent how this game was going to turn out. The Blue Raiders had themselves three big runs in the half. Two of them were 8-0 droughts for FIU.
For the Panthers, it was miss after miss while Middle Tennessee looked noticeably comfortable on the court. It seemed like an eternity in between any of the made shots for FIU during the half.
The Panthers fared much better on offense during the second half. Unfortunately, their defense didn’t. Down by 31, the Panthers found some rhythm to go on a 9-0 run, making it a 57-33 game.
However though, it just wasn’t enough. MTSU would go on to continue putting up points on the scoreboard anytime the Panthers made noise.
Jayden Brewer and Ashton Williamson were the only Panthers who scored in double figures. Brewer scored 15 along with seven boards while Williamson had 14 points himself.
CUSA Tournament
