Diop Shines In Scoreless Draw | June 23rd, 2021

Ft. Lauderdale –  Coming off a three-week international break, CF Montreal was back at Drive Pink Stadium Wednesday night. Despite being down a man and having their goalkeeper hobbling on one leg for the final minutes of the game, Montreal sneaked a tie with DC. Montreal Goalkeeper Clement Diop shined in the tie with DC as he made some marvelous saves.

Game Breakdown

In the first half, the chances for Montreal came few and far between. Montreal struggled to get anything going in the final third. They only registered two total shots in the first half and only one of those shots threatened the keeper. On the other hand, DC United took 10 in the first half alone. However, only two of their shots forced the keeper to get involved. Despite the offensive struggles, Montreal goalkeeper Clement Diop shined in the first half, making two spectacular saves that could have easily landed in the back of the net. The end of the half was unfortunate for Montreal as defender Zorhan Bassong got his second yellow card leaving the team to perform with only 10 men in the second half. The first half ended with a score of 0-0.

The second half was a copy and paste replica of the first. Montreal continued to struggle heavily in the final third as they were only able to get two more shots. As a matter of fact, their shooting performance might have been worse in the second half as none of their shots were on target.  Whereas Montreal struggled, DC finished the match with over 25 total shots in the game. Despite the plethora of shots, only eight were on target. Continuing the trend from the first half. Clement Diop was the real star today as he was a brick wall, making multiple impressive saves. Although he got injured late in the game, he showed true fight and determination to stay in the game and secure the scoreless draw.
