SUNRISE, FL – Right before the NHL trade deadline closed earlier today, one final major trade was announced. 36-year-old left winger Brad Marchand has been traded from the Boston Bruins to the Florida Panthers.
As part of the trade, Florida is sending Boston a 2027 second-round pick. This pick is conditional and can turn into a first-round pick if certain requirements are met.
Currently, Marchand is dealing with an upper-body injury from a hit he took against Pittsburgh on March 1st. A few days ago, the Bruins listed him as week-to-week.
Regardless, Boston’s captain was having a solid season with 47 points, including 21 goals and 26 assists. Drafted by Boston in 2006, Marchand had spent his entire career with the Bruins, including winning the Stanley Cup in 2011. He also represented Team Canada in the Four Nations Faceoff, helping them win the in-season tournament.

The trade comes as Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk was added to the LTIR, or Long-Term Injured Reserve, which allowed Florida to temporarily exceed the salary cap. Marchand now joins Seth Jones, Vitek Vanecek, Nico Sturm, and Kaapo Kähkönen as recent acquisitions from the Panthers.
