Over the past week, FIU Football has prioritized bulking up the defense. They’ve added two commitments from the transfer portal between the trenches and secondary – Defensive lineman L’Cier Luter and cornerback Tyderick Brown.
Luter, now a senior, joins the Panthers following a season full of MACtion at Ball State. Before that, he had spent time at Saddleback College, a JUCO school in Mission Viejo, California.
Meanwhile, Brown, now a sophomore, joins FIU following a season at UAB, a very popular school that the Panthers are plucking talent from. Luter is from Detroit, while Brown is from Dallas.
L’Cier Luter
In his lone season at Ball State, the 6’3″, 334-pound lineman appeared in four games. He recorded a pass deflection and six total tackles, five of which were assisted. Three of his tackles were against James Madison back on September 28th.
His best statistics are from his time with the Saddleback Bobcats. He racked up 22 tackles and California Community College Athletic Association Second-Team Honors.

Luter has also made brief stops at UNLV and Northern Colorado (FCS) but didn’t see any time on the field for either program. For FIU, he’ll provide solid depth at the position. It features a blend of returning talent, such as Keegan Davis and Quaylen Hill, alongside other newcomers like Kenton Simmons and Lamont Green Jr.
Tyderick Brown
Brown, the 6’0″, 170-pound defensive back, was a former three-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He had four offers coming out of high school in Duncanville, Texas, including Marshall and Arizona State.
He’ll have four years of eligibility remaining. His time with the Blazers was brief; he only played in one game. Against South Florida back on October 19th, he recorded a single tackle.

Regardless, the Panthers believe Brown has long-term potential and depth at the position. Coached by Anthony Gaitor, the unit features returners like Brian Blades II and Antonio Patterson, with solid pickups including Websley Etienne and Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine. All in all, two good pickups for the trenches and secondary.
