For the first time this season, FIU Men’s Basketball has won back-to-back games. They defeated the Stetson Hatters by a final score of 81-72 to move to 4-6 on the season.
Jayden Brewer Doing Jayden Brewer Things
After a slow start, Panthers guard Jayden Brewer heated up and finished the game with 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists, and went 7-12 from the field.
This marked Brewer’s second 20-point game of the season, with his first coming against Southern Utah.
FIU Dominated The Paint
The Panthers dominated with 46 points in the paint. FIU had been attacking the paint plenty throughout the season but found a breakthrough on Saturday afternoon.
Shooting Improvements
Saturday’s game marked the Panthers’ best shooting performance, going 45.9% from the field and 5-18 from beyond the arc.
FIU is seventh in field goal percentage and last in three-point percentage, though that certainly saw an improvement.
Three players finished the game in the double-digits – Brewer, Asim Jones, and Vianney Salatchoum.
Second Half Struggles
Although FIU came out with the win, the Panthers were outscored 44-34 in the second half of action. FIU struggled from the field, going 9-26, and turned the ball over six times.
Jonathan Aybar fouled out with over seven minutes left in the game. He finished the game with eight points, going 4-10 from the field along with three turnovers.
What’s Next?
FIU will continue their road trip as they head to take on Greenville to take on the East Carolina Pirates, who have a 7-4 record this season.
