FIU looked to make it three wins in a row on Tuesday night against an East Carolina team that had dropped their last three games. However, struggles from the free-throw line played a key factor in their 75-64 loss.
Struggles From The Free Throw Line
On the night, FIU went 7-18 from the line. Going into the game, the Panthers ranked sixth amongst the conference in free throw percentage. They went 39%, with Jonathan Aybar going 1-7 from the strike.
Big Night For Jonathan Aybar
Despite struggling from the free throw line, Aybar had his best performance as an FIU Panther, dropping 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, shooting 6-10 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc.
Aybar’s 16 points was an FIU high and two points shy of his career-high 18 points which he did back when he was with North Florida.
Improvements From Asim Jones
After a slow start to the season, JUCO transfer Asim Jones has picked it up. With his performance on Tuesday, he now has back-to-back games where he has double-digit points. He had 13 points, two rebounds, and four assists, and was 5-10 from the field.
What’s Next?
With the loss, FIU will drop to 4-7 on the season and will head back home for a four-game homestand which begins on Saturday, December 21st against IU Indy.
