The first known player to enter the transfer portal for FIU Baseball is starting pitcher Owen Puk. He will enter with one year of eligibility remaining.
Puk will finish his FIU career with a 6.99 ERA, 87 strikeouts, and 57 walks through 74 ⅔ innings pitched. Last season was his best, posting a 4.84 ERA, 11.4 K/,9 and 5.1 BB/9 through 35 ⅓ innings pitched.
On April 12, against the New Mexico State Aggies, Puk set a career-high nine strikeouts through four innings of work. He had previously set a career-high of eight strikeouts in 2025.
Thank you to everyone at FIU the last 4 years. I will be entering the transfer portal. Starting Pitcher.

His arsenal includes a four-seam fastball/sinker, sweeper, slider, changeup, and cutter. His fastball saw a major velocity increase following his Tommy John surgery. Fastball is now averaging between 94-97 mph, topping out at around 99 miles per hour. Last season, Puk posted a 40% whiff on the slider, which is his best secondary pitch.
In his sophomore season, Puk underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire season rehabbing from that. He came back in 2024 and made 15 appearances (ten starts), striking out 28 batters in 26 innings.
Starting pitcher Owen Puk, the brother of current Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher A.J. Puk, could also be selected in the 2025 MLB Draft. You don’t always come by a 6’5,” 230-pound pitcher who throws as hard as he does. Entering the portal is a way to see what is out there, but also allows him to sign with a Major League Baseball team if selected.
