As announced earlier today, Ashton Williamson has committed to play for coach Jeremy Ballard and FIU Men’s Basketball this upcoming season.
Williamson is a 6’4″ point guard coming from Sunrise Christian Academy in Broward County. During his time with the Buffaloes, he averaged 11 points, six assists, four rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
Aside from FIU, Williamson also received offers from other D1 schools including the Northern Illinois Huskies and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The assistant head coach of Sunrise Christian, Patrick Wolz, stated in a post on X that Williamson is “Smooth with pace and vision. He creates pace and drops dimes that very few see coming. The shot looks clean and he’s plenty capable of getting paint touches as well, sometimes it’s just a matter of picking the most efficient option.”
Williamson will look to utilize his talents in an offensive group at FIU that will look very different this season with the departure of players such as Arturo Dean (Transfer Portal) and Javaunte Hawkins (Graduation) along with the addition of players like Asim Jones from the JUCO level.
