MIAMI, FL – Following one of the more frustrating losses this season against in-state rival FGCU to a final score of 68-65, the Panthers look to bounce back against the Long Island Sharks who are currently 1-5 on the season.
Arturo Dean continues to shine for this FIU team, as he becomes the first player on the Panthers to have a double-double performance, but not your typical double-double. An FIU program record 10 steal performance along with 13 points sealed it for him.
Along with Dean, Jonathan Aybar continues to succeed with his new team as he had himself a 10-point night while leading the team in rebounds this season. Aybar has started all games this season for the Panthers.
Despite Aybar leading the team in rebounds, the Panthers once again got out-rebounded, marking the seventh game where the Panthers have once again struggled in the rebounding department.
The Long Island Sharks, who are in the North East Conference have been led by freshman Eric Acker, who is averaging 14.2 PPG, 3.7 REB, 2.8 AST, and is shooting 47.2% from the field.
Along with Acker, guard Tai Strickland has been averaging 12.6 PPG, 2.8 REB, 2.0 AST, and is shooting 44.4% from the field. The 6’2″ Georgia Southern transfer has been one of the big contributors to the Sharks team but has also gone through a tough non-conference schedule.
Tip-off is scheduled to be on Saturday at 6pm at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
