MIAMI, FL – After visiting the Panthers on Sunday, JUCO transfer Asim Jones verbally committed to FIU and, per source, is expected to sign within the coming week.
Jones visited both Middle Tennessee and Rider University. MTSU stood out, but FIU was able to change its mind on Easter Sunday.
Between his two seasons at the JUCO level, Jones averaged 19.6 points per game, 2.4 rebounds and 99 assists on the season. In 2023, he averaged 33.7 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 72 assists.
What stands out about Asim Jones is his ability to play well with big men. At the moment, the Panthers are heading into the season with Okechukwu Okeke, Jonathan Aybar, and Dante Wilcox.
The New Jersey product would be the ideal replacement for Arturo Dean, but where he differentiates from Dean is in the defensive aspect of the game. Dean, arguably one of the best defenders in the game departs from FIU, but Jones might just be the overall better offensive player.
Through his two seasons at the JUCO level, Jones had a .479 shooting percentage and a .705 three-point percentage.
