On Saturday, Houston Christian transfer guard Julian Mackey announced his commitment to FIU. He has one year of eligibility remaining. This will be Mackey’s fifth school in five years.

Last season, Mackey started 27 games, averaging 15 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He shot 41.3% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc. Mackey finished third in three-point and field goal percentage. Houston Christian posted a 12-20 record last season.

Before his time with Houston Christian, Mackey was at Georgia State. He played in 27 games off the bench as a junior. He averaged 5.0 points and 1.5 rebounds. Mackey also made prior stops at Northeast Oklahoma A&M and Niagara.

At the HBCU level, Mackey averaged 20.5 points per game on 47% shooting from the field and 43% from the arc in his lone season. As for head coach Jeremy Ballard and his staff, this marks the fifth commitment to what will be a brand-new team for FIU.

At the moment, these are the following players on the FIU roster: Thiago Sucatzky, Zawdie Jackson, Mikey Kelvin II, and Corey Stephenson, who has not officially signed.
