MIAMI, FL – It took some theatrics in their final game, but FIU Women’s Soccer earned a 2-2 draw against Jacksonville State, clinching the title of 2024 CUSA Regular Season Champions.
With the win, FIU caps off the regular season with an 11-4-2 record, their best campaign since 2012. Their conference record of 6-1-2 is their best as a member of Conference USA.
The Panthers had to claw their way back due to an early goal given up three minutes in. The Gamecocks did a good job of maintaining that lead into halftime, but FIU continued their dominance in the second half.
It took some time, but Montelene Dymond found herself open at midfield called for a pass from Ashly Martinez, then surged to the box and beat Jax State’s goaltender for the equalizer.
Right before the 69th minute, Noemi Paquin was caught in traffic but found an open lane in front of the net and cashed in for a 2-1 lead.
In the 70th minute, the Gamecocks got their equalizer. Both teams fought for another opportunity, but FIU only needed a draw to win the regular season championship, and that’s what they got.
Not only are the Panthers the #1 seed in CUSA, but they’ll also be hosting this year’s tournament at Leyva Family Field. As the Regular Season Champs, they’ll also have a first-round bye. They’re set to begin on Wednesday, November 6th to Sunday, November 20th.
