MIAMI, FL – FIU Women’s Soccer has officially hired the fifth head coach in program history – Mat Dunn, who didn’t have to go far for the new job.
The news follows former head coach Jonathan Garbar leaving the program and accepting an associate head coach position with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in late January.
Success With The Seahawks
Dunn joins the Panthers following a 14-year tenure as the head coach of Keiser University. His time with the Seahawks was exceptionally successful, with a 254-42-17 overall record. This includes never allowing a losing season for Keiser.
“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and continue to build on the success of the program,” said Coach Dunn. “To my Seahawk Family, I am forever grateful. To the Panther Family, thank you for welcoming me with open arms.”
Putting the I in FIU, Dunn is from Sheffield, England. He led Keiser to the NAIA Postseason Tournament annually with the Seahawks, winning back-to-back NAIA Championships in 2019 and 2020. He was then named NAIA Coach of the Year following both seasons.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Mat to FIU to lead our women’s soccer program,” said FIU Athletic Director Scott Carr. “Mat is a proven winner with sustained success who has won multiple national championships. His record speaks for itself – all he has done as a head coach is win. He is uniquely familiar with South Florida having spent the past two decades here, and has not only built championship-winning teams, but award-winning student-athletes who excel academically.”
On top of the NAIA Championships, Dunn guided the Seahawks to 10 Sun Conference Regular Season Championships and six Sun Conference Tournament Championships. This past season, Keiser recorded an 18-2-1 record as well as a spot in the NAIA Final Four.
The athletes Dunn has coached are another key factor in his hire here at FIU. His recruiting led to 106 SUN All-Conference members, 65 First Team selections, and 54 NAIA All-America selections.
