On Thursday, FIU Men’s Soccer released its schedule for the 2024 season, consisting of six home games and nine away games.

The season opener will be in Miami on Thursday, August 22nd against the Seton Hall Pirates.

In 2024, the Panthers will take on two power conference opponents – The UNC Tar Heels and SMU Mustangs of the ACC. In addition, they’ll also take on the Georgetown Hoyas, a Top 25 program last season.

Last season, the Tar Heels held an overall record of 11-4-7 and a conference record of 2-3-3. The previous time FIU took on UNC, was in 2022 when the Panther won by a final score of 2-1.

Former Panther and now current Kansas City FC player Stephen Afrifa scored both goals in that game and one of those assists came from current Panther Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro.

The UCF Knights welcomed FIU last season and the game ended in a draw at two apiece. The overall record between both schools is 6-6-2. The matchup winner on Wednesday, September 11th will see who goes above or under .500 in the record.

SMU is no stranger to the Panthers as both teams were conference rivals in 2023 before the Mustangs moved to the ACC alongside Stanford and Cal.

Last season’s match ended in a 2-2 tie. Historically, the Panthers have struggled against SMU, posting a 2-8-1 record. Their last win against the Mustangs came in 2009.

The conference slate will include USF, Tulsa, UAB, Charlotte, FAU, Temple, and Memphis. Last season, FIU went 5-1-2 in conference play. Their only loss came against Florida Atlantic.

The AAC season opener will occur on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 pm in Miami against the USF Bulls. Last season, the Panthers defeated them by a final score of 2-1. FIU has not lost to the Bulls since 2008. Matches have resulted in either a win or a draw.

Last season, the only conference games FIU lost were against the Florida Atlantic Owls which ended the season going 3-5 in conference play.

They defeated the Panthers in Boca Raton by a final score of 2-1 and then knocked them out of the conference tournament by a final of 1-0. The Panthers take on the Owls in Miami on Sunday, October 20th at 7pm.

The season finale will be at home against the Memphis Tigers on Friday, November 1st at 7pm. FIU defeated the Tigers last season by a final score of 2-1.
