FIU Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener In Disappointing Fashion

MIAMI, FL – The last time FIU Men’s Soccer lost their season opener was in 2022 when they lost to the Akron Zips. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened as the Panthers fell to the Seton Hall Pirates by a score of 1-0.

In the 59th minute of the game, Agustin Resch took advantage of the corner kick and was able to score via a header to give Seton Hall a lead, which would be the only goal of the night.

Despite 10 shots for FIU, only three of them were shots on goal. This hasn’t happened since 2022 when they fell by a final score of 3-0 to #RV New Hampshire.

As for positives, Nigel Van Haveren opened up his FIU career with eight saves, the most for a Panther since Johan Peñaranda in 2021 where he had 14 against Marshall.

The last time FIU started the season 0-1 was in 2022, in which they went on to win three in a row against #25 St. Johns and #13 North Carolina.

Up next for FIU is a trip to DeLand to take on the Stetson Hatters, who have yet to kick off their season. The game is on Monday, August 26th at 6 pm.
