After losing to Florida Atlantic in the regular season, FIU Men’s Soccer got the last laugh by knocking out the Owls in Boca Raton by a score of 1-0 in the first round of the AAC Tournament.

Unlike some matches this season where FIU had to fight to get their first goal, they cruised to their first and only scored less than 10 minutes in.

Eduardo Mustre found himself in a premium spot in front of the net. A pass to the front of the net bounced off an FAU player and landed right in front of Mustre, who tapped it in for the sole goal of the night.

FAU had scored six goals against Charlotte in their prior match, but they were held blank as FIU’s defense protected the net for the majority of the match.

The Panthers thought that they had an insurance goal with about 20 minutes to go, but an offsides call took that away following an official review.

It made the final minutes a nailbiter, but FIU did survive and advance, knocking FAU out of the first round in their home stadium.

With the win, the Panthers now advance to the AAC Championship semifinals as they get set to take on the top-seeded Memphis Tigers on Wednesday, November 14th, at 8pm in Tennessee.
