MIAMI, FL – FIU was probably hoping they’d find some comfort in returning home after a three-game road trip that saw them go winless.

Instead, the Panthers, who entered Thursday’s game undefeated at home in Conference USA play, were run out of the gym by the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs by a final score of 93-53.

LA Tech (16-6, 6-1) is the tallest team in the conference that FIU (7-15, 2-5) has played this year, and they were able to exploit that to the fullest extent by putting up 48 points in the paint compared to FIU’s 26.

It was clear from early on that the  Bulldogs, who are atop the C-USA standings, were feeling hot. They shot 64.7 percent from the field, sank nine three-pointers, and led by 33 at the half, and they only got better as the game went on.

Bulldogs guard Tahlik Chavez led all scorers with 27 points. Isaiah Crawford, No. 2 in C-USA scoring with 16 points per game, was held to just 11 points.

While the Panthers struggled all game, Jayden Brewer at least popped off with 18 points, on 6/10 shooting, while also collecting two assists and three steals.

As a team, FIU was held to 32.2 percent shooting.

FIU won’t have too much time to think about Thursday’s drubbing, as they welcome the second-place Sam Houston State Bearkats at 2 pm on Saturday.
