MIAMI, FL – Under the guise of their new head coach, Willie Simmons, FIU Football has added to their brand new coaching staff with two new hires.
Nick Coleman, the quarterbacks coach at UAB, is being targeted to become the new offensive coordinator of FIU. Rick Stockstill, a longtime head coach for Middle Tennessee, is being targeted to become the tight ends coach.
There’s a connection between the two men. Coleman was a former quarterback at MTSU when both Stockstill and Simmons were coaches at Murfreesboro.
Coleman started as a grad assistant before he became an offensive analyst at South Carolina following a few stints with D2, JUCO, and FCS programs.
His time in the SEC was eventful, guiding Spencer Rattler in his legendary campaign with the Gamecocks, now a quarterback with the New Orleans Saints.
Meanwhile, Stockstill is a native Floridian and a veteran in the college football landscape. A former QB at Florida State, Stockstill began his coaching career at Bethune-Cookman before making stops at UCF, Clemson, and East Carolina.
He began as the head coach at MTSU in 2006 and was the head coach there until 2023. As mentioned earlier, Coleman was a former quarterback while Simmons was a running backs coach and OC.
