MIAMI, FL – As per every season, the FIU Panthers have announced their early signing class. This class consists of eight players hailing from the Sunshine State.
STERLING JOSEPH – Running Back, Edison High School
Joseph is the brother of former FIU running back Lexington Joseph and is the sole back in this recruiting class. He had plenty of other options to choose from – 16 total collegiate offers.
In three seasons with Edison, he ran for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, averaging almost 10 yards per carry.
SEAN BURKE – Tight End, South Broward High School
Burke is the brother of former FIU offensive lineman Travis Burke. In high school, he was a two-way player, doubling as an edge rusher. However, it seems that he’ll be utilized as a tight end solely with the Panthers.
He was the only tight end of this recruiting class. This past season, Burke recorded 45 receptions for 699 yards and a score, with almost 1,500 yards in his high school tenure.
KENNY WILLIAMS – Wide Receiver, Gulliver Prep
Williams will join a wide receiver unit at FIU that has produced talent in the past. Some of his other offers included James Madison and West Virginia.
As a receiver, he collected 124 receptions for 1,824 yards and seven scores in limited action, including six games this past season. He does bring versatility as an option on special teams and as a quarterback during wildcat formations.
TYSON CARTER – Wide Receiver, Edgewater High School
Carter arrived at FIU as one of his few options at the FBS level, alongside Air Force and Troy.
In his senior year, Carter utilized his speed for 30 receptions, 636 yards, and seven touchdowns.
KELVIN REYES – Safety, West Broward High School
Kelvin’s time at West Broward consists of both football and baseball but earned three starts as a safety.
He recorded 118 total tackles, including 88 solo, and seven interceptions during his high school career in Pembroke Pines.
MATTHEW POINTER – Edge Rusher, Chaminade-Madonna
Pointer was another two-sport player during his school tenure as he also dabbled in basketball.
As an edge rusher, Pointer recorded 42 total tackles and 20.5 tackles for a loss during his senior season.
CAMERON DAVIS – Linebacker, Blanche Ely High School
Davis was a starter for three seasons at linebacker as well as tight end.
He recorded 64 tackles and four sacks as a senior, and 178 tackles, eight sacks, and three interceptions in his career.
JEREMY SMITH – Offensive Lineman, Miami Central High
Smith stands at 6’5,” and 250 pounds. He’s the only offensive lineman that FIU signed in this early period.
A reliable unit in the tranches, he helped lead Miami Central to a Top 15 ranking in the state of Florida during his senior year.
