MIAMI, FL – It didn’t take long for Jesyka Burks-Wiley and her team to pick up where they left off as they defeated Florida National by a final score of 132-25 to pick up their first win of the season.

New Faces Show Up And Show Out

It didn’t take long for the newcomers to show why they were picked up from the transfer portal. Lucia Fleta Robles, a transfer senior out of Detroit Mercy led the way with 18 points, shooting 5-7 from the field and 3-7 from beyond the arc.

Judith Valero Rodriguez, a transfer out of USF, made a quick impact beyond the arc, going 4-5. She ended the night with 16 points, going 5-8 from the field.

Mya Kone Is Still Mya Kone

Kone was selected as the Conference USA Preseason Player Of The Year. After a rusty first quarter, she got it going and finished the game with a usual Mya Kone stat line – 21 points, 14 rebounds, 7-13 FG, and 2-5 from the three-point line.

Most Points In Program History

Even after putting up 113 points against this same Florida National team to begin the 2023-24 season, the Panthers set a program record, dropping 132 points.

Seven Panthers finished with double-digit points. Mya Kone led the way with 21 points.

What’s Next?

With the win, FIU will begin the season with a 1-0 record for the third straight season. On Friday, November 8th, they will welcome Abilene Christian at 7pm.
