MIAMI, FL – There’s no nice way of putting it, FIU Baseball got shelled by the Seton Hall Pirates in the first of a four-game series, and it wasn’t pretty.
With a final score of 12-3, this was not a very convincing performance for the Panthers who were coming off a respectable split series with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Pirates bats were ready for whatever the pitching rotation for FIU provided. Logan Runde made his first start as a Panther and unfortunately didn’t have a clean night, giving up an early run in the first inning and giving up seven total hits.
From the third to the fifth inning, the Pirates added to their lead with six more unanswered runs to put themselves up with a staggering 7-0 lead.
FIU’s offense finally broke through in the sixth and seventh innings with a two-run dinger by Jeff Liquori and an RBI triple by Chase Engelhard. Overall, Liquori had a great night with three total hits.
But the top of the ninth turned out to be a nightmare for FIU as Seton Hall racked up four insurance runs that the Panthers couldn’t keep up with, ultimately falling by a score of 12-3.
This drops FIU’s record to 5-4, but they won’t have a lot of time to recuperate as they’re set to take on the Pirates once more tomorrow at 5pm. Keep in mind there’s no Saturday doubleheader. The following game will be on Sunday at noon.
