MIAMI, FL – This was a great season for the Panthers when it came to defending their city. However, they fell short in the final home game of the season, dropping the weekend series to the Liberty Flames by a score of 3-0.
Today was the second time all season that FIU’s otherwise exceptional offense failed to score a run in a game. The first was against the ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots on the road. However, Liberty entered this game with an even smaller ERA (4.64) than the Patriots. (5.10)
Signing Off In Style From Miami
As it was Senior Day, there were festivities beforehand. 12 Panthers were recognized for their efforts. Some names include Kishon Frett, Owen Puk, Brylan West, and today’s starting pitcher, Logan Runde. He gave it his all, going 4.1 innings while giving up no runs and three hits. His NINE strikeouts today are a career-high as well.
Shoutout the FIU seniors playing in the 305 one last time this season. ⚾️

Neither team drove in runners until the eighth inning, when Liberty broke through with an RBI single against Kevin Martin. They then scored two insurance runs in the ninth off a home run to left field against Juan Villarreal.
Blanked With Big Games Up Next
It’s not like FIU wasn’t able to register hits, as they did – six in total. However, nine batters made it on base, and they were all left there. Austin Dearing had the best game by a Panther at the plate with two hits. To be shut out in a game where they could have clinched a spot in the CUSA Tournament AND won the final home game was not what they drew up.
It could be worse, however. The Panthers control their destiny in terms of getting into the postseason. All they need to do is win a SINGLE game in their upcoming series against Sam Houston State. Either that, or Middle Tennessee needs to lose a SINGLE game in their series against Kennesaw State.
As mentioned at the start, the Panthers had a great season at home. With a 23-9 record, that’s the most wins in a single season at FIU Baseball Stadium since 2014. Their upcoming series in Huntsville, Texas, against the Bearkats is the final series of the regular season. First pitch is set for Thursday, May 15th at 7:30pm
